Austell, GA, Feb. 14, 2020 - It will be 24 years as of April 1, 2020 when Ken and Hoyt Marbutt decided to hire Karen Cross from the temp agency.  Her receptionist and accounting experience at a Vermont concrete company paved the way for her to start a career she never anticipated.

A career that continues to amaze her.  “We started with a phone and notepad.  I was the receptionist to begin which grew into doing the internal work of sorting and packing for our client, Howard Johnson’s.  Eventually, I handled the invoicing and the accounting.” She also told me, “It’s crazy how much we’ve grown.  I mean we were doing kid toy packs for Denny’s and Chik-fil-A, Super Bowl books, and t-shirt redemption programs for Checkers.  Today, we are doing so many different assemblies for a variety of clients.”

It didn’t take her long to respond to the question of “What are three words you would use to describe FSI?”  She replied, “I’d say family-oriented, employee activities, and lenient.  They really take care of their employees.”

She’s had many memorable experiences, but the one that made her smile was the 20^th Anniversary Party at the EpiCenter facility nearby.  “We had such a crazy and fun time,” said Karen.  “Bowling, company swag, and good food made it really special.”

She’s been married for 42 years raised two kids and now enjoys six grandchildren as well.  All live near the Atlanta area.  “I have a lot to thankful for.  FSI has provided the foundation for us to build a close-knit family.  I get to help my grandkids with their quad and motorcycle racing.  It provides lots of time for socializing while helping the kids on the trails.  Really America at its best.”  It seems that racing is in her blood since she was a huge NASCAR fan with her favorite drivers being Rusty Wallace, Dale Earnhardt, Sr., and Dale Earnhardt, Jr.  While she used to go to all the races and nearby signing events, she’s traded some of that for cruising the Caribbean with friends.

Karen is an FSI treasure.  When you get to know her and her peaceful approach to life, you understand why she’s also a blessing to our southern community. We’re so thankful she’s been a part of the FSI team for 24 years.  Thank you for your service.
