FSI Fall 5K is a Run-Away Success!

Lithia Springs – 10/7/22 – Forrest Marbutt – Team FSI had a great time participating in the 7^th Annual Kiwanis Bob Reeves Memorial 5K last week.  Not only was the weather gorgeous, but also several metals were won by Team FSI.  All in the name of a great cause.

A little background on this event.  This outstanding Kiwanian, Dr. Robert "Bob" Reeves. Bob, also known as Woody to his close friends, exemplified many great attributes of Kiwanis International.  A club member for over 46 years, he served his community with much enthusiasm and benevolence.  As a retired Professor of Physical Education with the University of West Georgia, fitness trainer, ballroom dance instructor, and Sunday School teacher, he was an active volunteer for many community, civic, and church related events and organizations.  Our support of the Carrollton Kiwanis Club is another way FSI can help make a difference in the lives of children, one child at a time, in the West Georgia Area.

Many FSI employees earned medals in their age groups, and if you haven’t met them before, Wayne Wascom and Toni Merton were our fastest male and female employees for the day.  Wayne is one of our warehouse supervisors, and Toni is our HR Director.  We even had one employee, Hope Hemmila, who completed her very first 5K ever (see her celebration dance below).  If you’ve had the pleasure of dealing with Hope before, then you know her as the new account implementation coordinator.  She makes sure all new accounts get set up just the way they like without having to fit a cookie cutter mold where every account is treated the same.  Whether we placed in our age groups or not, ran or walked, first timers or experienced racers, we all had a great time together, and we’re proud to have supported another local charity.  Congratulations to all! 

FSI firmly believes in giving back to our ‘local communities/charitable causes’ and having fun team building activities together while doing it.  If we can encourage some health benefits with the employees along the way, then that makes it even better.  We’re raising the bar though.  While we will still give blood every few months and participate in Toys for Toys every Christmas, the charities we’ve been involved with have mostly been decided on by our management team.  Now we’re opening up a nomination process to the rest of the company where our employees will make suggestions about causes/events that are important to them.  They’ll submit their entries, and we’ll choose from these options throughout the year.  When we do pick one of their causes, we’ll make sure that employee gets full credit for the idea.  While this last particular event was a 5K, the future events our employees may come up with can be for anything that is important to them.  We’ve participated in or sponsored many other events in the past like cancer walks, scavenger hunts, food pantries, mud races, feeding the needy/homeless, storm cleanup, churches, Cub Scouts, etc.  We’re looking to make our company giving back more personal to the employees, and we can’t wait to see where that takes us.  Special thanks to our clients whose business makes our charitable activity possible.
